As the subcontractor for the construction of the TBM shafts, UTEC is the first contractor in Southeast Asia to ever deploy the use of a Vertical Shaft Machine (VSM) for the mechanized construction of the shafts.

Using this method, a total number of 5 shafts of 11.2m diameter will be constructed to a depth of 38m in Jurong Formation and Kallang Formation. Compared to other traditional methods of shaft construction, this method is expected to improve construction productivity up to 50%.
